Developing story

A real 2026 President Donald J. Trump $1 coin bearing a previously undisclosed "JULY 4th" privy mark has surfaced in an Advanced Delivery roll.

Updated August 26, 2026, Eastern time. CAC Grading calls it the discovery coin, while the U.S. Mint's public Trump-dollar specification still listed "Privy Mark: None" when CoinHub checked Wednesday evening. The coin and its CAC label are documented in photographs, but the Mint has not yet published the privy quantity, insertion method, or a separate product listing.

What CAC announced about the discovery

In a public announcement Wednesday afternoon, CAC Grading said Heritage Auctions senior numismatist Rene Alvarenga found the unannounced privy coin inside an Advanced Delivery roll of the new 2026 dollars.

The pictured piece carries a CAC MS64 grade. Its label identifies it as the "July 4th Privy," "Discovery Coin," and "Advanced Delivery" example.

CAC also said Heritage Auctions will donate the discovery piece to the American Numismatic Association. The timing is notable: the 2026 ANA World's Fair of Money is underway August 25 through 29 in Pittsburgh, with Heritage listed as an ANA event auctioneer partner.

According to CAC, limited numbers of the privy coins will be released alongside the standard, non-privy Trump dollars on September 2. CoinHub found no indexed independent report explaining the variant during its first search checks Wednesday evening, placing this coverage among the earliest. That does not make every program detail final.

Where to find the JULY 4th privy mark

The mark appears on the obverse, or heads side, to the left of President Trump's portrait and directly above the five-pointed star near the lower-left field. It reads JULY over 4th.

On the photographed discovery coin, the two-line mark is recessed into the same open field that is blank on the standard version.

What remains unchanged

The rest of the obverse follows the announced 2026 design. "LIBERTY" arcs across the top, "IN GOD WE TRUST" appears to the right of the portrait, and the dual date "1776~2026" runs along the bottom.

The reverse shows the Presidential Seal, the number "250" on the shield, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "ONE DOLLAR." The discovery photographs do not show a different reverse design.

Why the Mint page makes this developing news

The Mint's current Trump-dollar campaign page still lists Privy Mark: None. Its public product page also describes only the standard roll and bag offering. CoinHub did not find an official Mint press release giving the privy mintage or distribution method before publication.

The key distinction: the physical discovery coin is documented, but the broader Mint program is not yet fully explained.

Documented now

  • CAC published photographs of a physical coin.
  • The discovery is attributed to Rene Alvarenga.
  • CAC graded the photographed coin MS64.
  • The label identifies it as an Advanced Delivery discovery coin.

Still awaiting Mint detail

  • The total number of privy coins.
  • How the marked pieces will be distributed.
  • Whether they can appear in both rolls and bags.
  • Whether they will enter circulation or use a separate sales channel.

A screenshot, seller claim, or social-media estimate should not fill those gaps. The Mint's live page and any later official announcement should control once they are updated.

How this relates to the standard 2026 Trump dollar

The standard coin was announced before the privy discovery and remains scheduled for release on September 2, 2026. Prices, limits, and availability can change, so collectors should recheck the live Mint product page before ordering.

25-coin roll
$61
100-coin bag
$154.50
Product limits
150,000 rolls and 50,000 bags
Household limit
Two until 2 p.m. ET on September 3

Those roll and bag limits are not a disclosed privy mintage. They describe the standard product SKUs. CoinHub's guide to mintage, product, and household limits explains why the labels should not be treated as interchangeable.

The dollar is legal tender and has a circulating finish, but a "golden dollar" is not made of gold. The Mint lists a manganese-brass-colored composition of 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel, and the balance copper. It weighs 8.10 grams, measures 26.49 millimeters, has a plain edge, and is made in Philadelphia without a mint mark.

See CoinHub's standard 2026 Trump dollar release guide for the evergreen product details.

The July 4th quarter is a precedent, not a blueprint

The Mint already used the same basic "July 4" idea on a limited number of 2026 Declaration of Independence quarters. It disclosed 250,000 of those quarters and randomly mixed them into bulk circulation shipments, creating a nationwide search.

CoinHub covered the July 4th privy-mark quarter when that hunt began.

Do not carry the quarter's numbers over to the dollar. The quarter program does not prove that 250,000 Trump dollars will have the mark, that the dollars will be mixed randomly, or that they will enter circulation in the same way.

Until the Mint says otherwise, the quarter's mintage and distribution plan belong only to the quarter.

Why this discovery could influence modern collecting

The discovery adds a second identifiable version to an already prominent one-year design: the announced standard dollar and a visually distinct July 4th privy dollar.

That creates an immediate attribution question for roll buyers, grading services, catalogers, dealers, and collectors. A documented discovery at the nation's largest annual coin convention also gives the variant a clear place and moment in the public record.

Its long-term market importance cannot be measured on announcement day. Supply is unknown, normal examples have not reached the wider market, and early asking prices can reflect publicity more than stable demand.

"Discovery coin" is meaningful provenance for this specific CAC-certified example. It should not be copied onto later coins merely because they have the same privy.

The variant is important enough to document now, but no one has a reliable price guide for it yet.

What collectors should do next

  1. Check the correct location. Look left of the portrait, immediately above the lower-left star, for the two-line "JULY 4th" mark.
  2. Preserve the full purchase trail. Keep the original Mint roll or bag, shipping materials, receipt, and photographs showing how the coin was found.
  3. Do not clean the coin. Cleaning can permanently alter the surface and reduce collector value.
  4. Photograph both sides and the edge. Clear, evenly lit images help document the mark, condition, and source.
  5. Wait for official distribution details. Do not assume a seller knows the mintage, insertion rate, or final value before the Mint publishes those facts.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 2026 Trump dollar July 4th privy mark real?

A physical coin is shown in CAC Grading's public photographs, and CAC labeled the pictured piece MS64, July 4th Privy, Discovery Coin, and Advanced Delivery. The Mint's public specification had not yet been updated when CoinHub checked, so the coin is documented while several program details remain pending.

How many July 4th privy Trump dollars will be made?

No exact quantity was publicly confirmed by the Mint before this article was published. CAC described the release as limited, but the standard roll and bag product limits should not be presented as the privy mintage.

Will the privy dollars be inside Mint rolls and bags on September 2?

CAC said limited privy coins will be released alongside the standard pieces on September 2, and the discovery came from an Advanced Delivery roll. CoinHub has not seen an official Mint explanation of whether marked coins can appear in every product format or how they will be inserted.

Is the Trump dollar made of gold?

No. Its gold color comes from a manganese-brass-colored base-metal composition. The Mint lists zinc, manganese, nickel, and copper, not gold.

What is the July 4th privy Trump dollar worth?

There is not enough verified supply or sales data for a responsible value range. The discovery coin's provenance and grade are specific to that piece. Collectors should wait for official quantities and transparent market results before treating an asking price as a guide.

Reporting note: Discovery details and real-coin photography come from CAC Grading's August 26 public announcement. Product specifications and availability should be rechecked on the U.S. Mint's live campaign page as this story develops.
