What the numbers mean

A ratio is a relationship, not a forecast

Gold price divided by silver price compares the same currency and fine-weight unit. Different source times can distort that relationship. A high or low ratio does not establish what either metal will do next.

Metal value and the delivered bill

Reference melt is fine troy ounces multiplied by a spot reference. A physical product also carries manufacturing and distribution costs. Payment terms, shipping, insurance and tax change the delivered total. The U.S. Mint explains bullion pricing separately from collectible coin value.

Per-ounce normalization does not make different products identical. Grade, authenticity, condition, resale demand and dealer terms still matter. Premium here is delivered cost minus reference melt, expressed in dollars and as a percentage of that melt value. It is not a promised resale premium.
